Background
Space licences authorise transmissions from satellites operating in conformity with Australian assignments in the Broadcasting Satellite Service (BSS) Plan. The BSS Plan provides assignments to Australia at two locations in the geostationary satellite orbit: longitudes 152° East longitude and 164° East. The BSS Plan establishes arrangements for service downlink channels in the 11.7-12.2 GHz frequency range and feeder uplink channels in the 17.3-18.1 GHz frequency range. Australian radiofrequency planning arrangements provide for ubiquitous use of the 11.7-12.2 GHz frequency range by customer terminal equipment in Australia.
