Band plans to allocate spectrum

Band plans set out the purpose and use for bands in the radiofrequency spectrum. We may allow public or community services to reserve parts of the spectrum.

Band plans describe how we allocate spectrum to different types of services.

We prepare plans for parts of the spectrum where we see a need due to:

  • government policy initiatives
  • demand from the community

These plans usually contain:

  • arrangements for the frequency
  • specific actions to avoid interference

To see future plans for frequency bands, see the latest Five-Year Spectrum Outlook.

Administrative band plans

Administrative band plans are similar to frequency band plans. We publish them as a type of radiocommunications assignment and licensing instruction (RALI).

They contain the policy to use bands. They are not a statutory document but help everyone use spectrum effectively.

See all the RALIs we use to coordinate frequency.
